Become a Dementia Friendly Charity, Organisation or Community Group

Small changes can make a big difference, and together we can make Rutland the first Dementia Friendly County in the UK.

Why become a dementia friendly community group, charity or organisation?
One in two of us will care for someone with dementia, or have the condition ourselves - we want as many of our groups and organisations locally to be as dementia friendly as possible as many people with dementia withdraw from their communities due to worries and uncertainty about how they will cope with daily tasks.

Encouragement and support when they engage with you can help those living with dementia be more independent and remain part of their local community, participating in the every day activities of daily life.

What organisations can become dementia friendly?
Any organisation, charity or community group that brings people together regularly as you are often the first to identify that something has changed. It could be the Rutland Lions, a badminton club, coffee morning group, Probus, the WI, a dining club or anyone else that brings people together in your community.

What does it involve?

There are a number of small changes you can consider to improve accessibility for individuals with dementia and their loved ones and carers. Most of the suggestions are relatively easy and are beneficial for all organisation members, not just those with a dementia.

Please click on the image below to download the Rutland Organisations Dementia Guide which includes a list of actions and lots of advice on what you can do to be more Dementia Friendly, including an Action List which will allow you to become Dementia Friendly Accredited!

Please let us know when you've completely the actions so together we can achieve Dementia Friendly County Status!
