Become a Dementia Friendly Parish Council

Small changes can make a big difference, and together we can make Rutland the first Dementia Friendly County in the UK.

Why become a dementia friendly Parish or Town Council?
One in two of us will care for someone with dementia, or have the condition ourselves - we would love every Parish and Town Council to be part of our journey to becoming the first Dementia Friendly County in the UK.

As well as making sure we are all as supportive as we can be, we hope our Dementia Conversation will encourage anyone locally who's noticed something has changed, or whose loved one may be showing signs of dementia, to have the confidence to step forward and access the support we have in Rutland.

What does it involve?

There are a number of small changes you can consider to improve considerations for individuals with dementia and their loved ones and carers as a Parish or Town Council in your community. Most of the suggestions are relatively easy and are beneficial for all of our communities, not just those with a dementia.

Please click on the image below to download the Rutland Parish Councils Dementia Guide which includes a list of actions and lots of advice on what you can do to be more Dementia Friendly, including an Action List which will allow you to become Dementia Friendly Accredited!

Please let us know when you've completely the actions so together we can achieve Dementia Friendly County Status!

Thank you to Ian Sheriff for kind permission to adapt the Plymouth City Council guidance for organisations.
